Pitch & Loudness
A sound wave has two basic ingredients. Frequency decides how high or low it sounds (pitch). Amplitude decides how loud it is. Play with both!
🔬 The science behind it🔬 その背後にある科学
Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz) = vibrations per second. 440 Hz means the air pushes back and forth 440 times every second! Humans hear roughly 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Bigger waves (amplitude) carry more energy, which your ear senses as louder.

Build a Sound from Pure Tones
Why does a violin sound different from a flute playing the same note? Because real sounds are made of many harmonics stacked together. Mix your own!
🔬 The science behind it🔬 その背後にある科学
This is Fourier's big idea: any sound can be built by adding simple sine waves at multiples of a base frequency (the harmonics). The recipe of harmonics is called timbre — it's why every instrument and voice is unique.

Play two notes that are almost the same and you'll hear a pulsing "wah-wah-wah." Musicians use this trick to tune their instruments!

Turn on your microphone and watch your voice come alive as a rainbow of frequencies. Try humming, whistling, or singing "ahhh"!

How Fast & How Long Are Sound Waves?
Sound zooms through air, water, and metal at very different speeds. The faster it goes, the longer each wave stretches.
🔬 The science behind it🔬 その背後にある科学
Sound is faster in stiffer, denser materials — that's why you can hear a train coming through the rails before the air. Wavelength λ = c / f, where c is the speed of sound. Lower notes have much longer waves (a deep 50 Hz wave in air is nearly 7 meters long!).
