The recording studio is TNKSND’s center today. Consulting and care tech continue around it as longer-term parts of the vision — important, but not louder than the main service.
One belief connects them: deep sound expertise should serve young musicians and human dignity.
Recording for students and professional musicians is TNKSND’s main service, built on close relationships with teachers and families.
A longer-term effort applying acoustics and robotics to care settings — technology in service of human dignity.
Acoustic and hardware consulting is available selectively. It is also the engineering foundation behind the studio.
Over time, TNKSND hopes to grow a small support program for young musicians and international students, and to keep developing sound technology that serves care settings.
Recording Engineer & Founder
I hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Electroacoustics) from the University of Massachusetts. After 30 years in professional audio R&D at Meta, Sonos, Bose, Skullcandy, and beyond, I now bring that experience to every TNKSND recording session.
In 2007, in my early thirties, I traveled between a U.S. headquarters and its Tokyo branch, and witnessed the two sides failing to fully communicate — while the Tokyo team stayed confined to a liaison-like role, never given the chance to exercise its true expertise. I felt a deep frustration that the talent of excellent Japanese professionals was going to waste. Ever since, I have kept asking how Japan’s strengths can best reach American companies. Rather than using cultural barriers as an excuse, can we build relationships of trust with sincerity? The lessons learned during this formative “training period” form the foundation of my strategic perspective today.
In 2011, I joined a startup and thought hard about what it would take to grow it into the world’s number-one headphone brand. The answer I arrived at: whether, through developing new products, we could spark a “chain of inspiration” — the kind that moves people to tears the way a great film does.
With “Hold a grand vision; don’t get hung up on small failures” as my motto, I built an acoustic R&D team from scratch and took on developing engineers at still-inexperienced factories. Develop people, keep their passion alive, and always give them the right goals. I believe true innovation is born only when we move the human emotions behind the technology.
In my forties, I became one of the pioneers of an entirely new product category at Meta — smart glasses — gathering talented engineers from around the world to push the frontiers of technology. Truly great products are not born overnight; I came to realize they emerge only from R&D pursued with a 5- to 10-year horizon. And behind such work, almost without exception, stands a leader with a sincere devotion to technology, who sets aside ego to give the team a stable environment. Pioneering a new field, what I learned at the front lines of global competition is that it is such leaders who separate organizations that thrive from those that don’t. I learned a great deal from my managers, and keenly felt how much I still have to grow.
Today, I want to pass on my deep knowledge of acoustic engineering to the next generation while weaving in my vision for the care-tech field.
Because I myself once suffered most from having “freedom and speed taken away” in the field, I want to help co-create, together with clients, an organizational culture where their teams can move with autonomy and passion. Fearless even in adversity, taking that bold first step. I want to be the partner who draws out the full potential of your technology and your people, and sparks a new “chain of inspiration” in the world.
The trajectory of R&D across top global platforms including Meta, Sonos, Bose, and Skullcandy. 31 patents and filings spanning acoustic design, beamforming, and noise control.
For recording sessions, teacher and school partnerships, talks, care-tech collaboration, or selective technology consulting — reach out and let’s talk.
